The Boston Prostate Cancer Walk has been a project of the Dana Farber Harvard Cancer Center for the past several years. In January of 2012 the walk became a program of the Cancer Resource Foundation, Inc. The Foundation is a Massachusetts corporation and a registered national 501c3 public charity. With our unified mission we will increase the prostate cancer education and provide research funding for prostate cancer in Massachusetts. With Stan Klein's leadership and the strong and supportive planning committee, the walk will work closely with the Cancer Resource foundation, Inc staff to expand and grow. This new collaboration, will allow the Boston Prostate Cancer Walk to increase its fundraising efforts and ultimately increase the funding for prostate cancer education and research.
For the past 11 years, the Boston Prostate Cancer Walk has been able to provide seed money for NCI research recipients in Massachusetts. The Boston Prostate Cancer Walk has raised money to help support career development awards for Massachusetts researchers. This type of award is specifically aimed to and support new scientists to become involved in prostate cancer research. The the past 11 years we have raised $3.4 million dollars for prostate cancer research, awareness, and education. With this seed money, and additional $1.9 million in matching funds from NCI has support our award recipients.
Over the past 4 years we have funded prostate cancer awareness programs by supporting 56 presentations on prostate cancer across the Commonwealth.

HISTORY
In 2000, Stan Klein approached members of the Longwood Medical Area Prostate Cancer Support Group to start a fundraising effort to raise money for prostate cancer research. With the support of many support group members, plans for the first Boston Prostate Cancer Walk began. Under the guidance of co-chairs Jeffrey Steinberg, MD and Stan Klein, the first walk was held on June 15th, 2001. The first walk had 1400 participants. Through friendships and camaraderie that formed, an all-volunteer committee began planning for the 2002 walk. Thousands of people have participated on the years, and thousands have supported the walk efforts. In the past eleven years, we raised $3.4 million dollars for prostate cancer.
In 2005, The Boston Prostate Cancer Walk organized a women’s speaker bureau called the Massachusetts Women Against Prostate Cancer. Through these activities, women became more involved in the fight against prostate cancer. Jeanette Clough, RN President and CEO of Mount Auburn Hospital has chaired this effort.
In 2008 and 2009, we held a fundraising dinner dance, all proceeds from this activity supported prostate cancer.
In January of 2012, the Boston Prostate Cancer Walk became a program of the Cancer Resource Foundation, Inc. Through this collaboration, we hope plan to grow and expand, raising more funds for prostate cancer research and education in Massachusetts.
