For the past 11 years, the Boston Prostate Cancer Walk has raised close to $3.4 million dollars for prostate cancer research and education and $3,0660,000 has been awarded to 64 new prostate cancer research projects from 11 different research institutions. We have also funded 56 prostate cancer awareness presentations throughout the Commonwealth, educating men and women about prostate cancer..
An estimated 240,890 new cases of prostate cancer will occur in the United States in 2011. Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. For reasons still unclear, the incidence rates are significantly higher for African American men.
In Massachusetts, approximately 165 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually and an estimated 25 men loose their battle with prostate cancer each year.
